Website Design FAQ

Here are some questions that we frequently get asked regarding websites.

1. How much does it cost for you to make me a website?
   Website costs vary depending on what you want. The price is based on how many pages your website will be, how much content your website will have, what features it will have, what sorts of bells and whistles it will have, and how many revisions are given to us. 2. How much does it cost for you to maintain my website?
   We have optional website maintenance plans starting at $50 a month, that may cover the following:
   
   
1. Website Back Up – Freedom Computers will maintain a full backup of the web site files and FTP information. This back up will enable Freedom Computers to provide a quick resolution to any possible server or hosting issues encountered in the future, and to reupload back up copies of any files necessary. Website files and FTP information will be available to the client upon request at any time.
2. Support – Support will be provided each month through telephone or email regarding the following: monitoring statistics and website counter hits, resolving issues from any visitors of the website, handling any updates or issues from the hosting company, and answering any questions about the website in general.
3. Website Updates – Updates may include, but are not limited to: Updating an existing page with new information, removing outdated content, adding latest news, notices or current events to the home page, updating contact information, correcting any newly found spelling errors, removing outdated or broken links to other web pages, and changing the copyright date each year.


3. How long will it take for you to make me a website?
   This depends on how much content your website has and how fast and efficiently content is provided to us. Typically, a small business website takes 2 to 3 weeks to complete, from the time of our initial meeting until the time your website is up and running.
   
   
4. If you make me a website, can I update it myself?
   We generally discourage updating your own website unless you already know how to. Websites are updated by editing the source code which is not something that most people can just pick up and learn.
   
   The easiest way to update a website is to use Adobe Dreamweaver, which we can provide help with upon request as long as you feel comfortable using it, but the program's retail price is $400 and it is not meant for novice computer users.
   
   
5. Where should I get my hosting and domain name accounts?
   You need to get your website domain name and hosting from a website hosting company and there are many to choose from. Freedom Computers likes to use 1and1.com because it provides everything that is typically needed for any business's website, and at a great price. You may be familiar with GoDaddy, but they charge more money and give you a lot less for it.
   
   
6. Can you make my website number one in Google's search results?
   We will do as much as a web designer can do to improve your Google page ranking, including using metatag keywords, metatag description, appropriate titles on each page, and using standard compatible search engine friendly source code, but there is only so much that these things will accomplish. Google's search results are determined by the websites' popularity, and your website will be competing with every other website that has the same target market. We encourage you to market your website, include your website address on all your advertisements, and ask anyone you know that has a website, blog, facebook page, or myspace page to link to your website. The more websites that link to your website, the higher page ranking your website will have.
   
   If your website is still not getting the traffic you want, you may want to look into using Google Adwords. This "pay-per-click" advertising system is the best way to get your website to appear at the beginning of a Google search result when it's not getting a lot of traffic. 7. Can you update my old website for me?
   If you are no longer working with your original web designer, Freedom Computers will be happy to take over. Whether your website needs to be redone entirely, or your website needs a small update, we can help. All we would need from you is your domain name, and your "FTP username" and "FTP password". This can be obtained from your hosting company. If you don't know how to obtain this information, we can help point you in the right direction.
